Our emotions are shaped by three systems: threat, drive, and soothing (Professor Paul Gilbert). Balanced interaction among these systems supports wellbeing.

The threat system helps protect us by reacting to danger with stress hormones, but overuse causes chronic stress.

The drive system encourages achievement and productivity......but living here nonstop can lead to burnout.

The soothing system is activated by relaxation and connection. It calms us through endorphins and oxytocin, restoring balance.

Combining drive and soothing moderates the threat response. In a busy world, intentionally engaging your soothing system is vital for health and equilibrium.
